Zigg’s verdict: The Entire Plot is in the Premise

I’m not kidding. There’s quite a few things you can say in support of Mr. Villain’s Day Off – it’s cute, mildly charming, has an agreeably laid-back vibe, and a lovely opening – but it is so insubstantial it makes a fart in the wind look like a gale force hurricane. There’s only one joke, if you can even call it that, and even in the space of one episode it has to be repeated multiple times to predictably diminishing effect. Honestly even if this were a ten minute short it would struggle to have enough genuine material to fill an episode, so the fact that it’s actually a full 24 minutes is kind of shocking. As it is, this is less a story or narrative and more the anime equivalent of one of those ‘lofi beats to relax to’ channels. If that’s your jam then more power to you, but personally I need something with a bit more meat on the bones to justify investing my time into.
