It looks like Zigg is the closest on the Planetes discussion, though the greek would be more like planeites. How many backlog episodes are you watching each time? I’ve dropped everything, so I’d be interested in following along.
Your support is appreciated
We’ve been sticking to one episode a week and we’re on episode 20 now
Since this comment admits I am right in at least one regard, I shall allow it
I would say the college guy in Zenshuu is more in line with Aoi Honoo if anything, except if the author insert mc didn’t give up on becoming an animator and was somehow more obsessed with Hideaki Anno than he already is.
I found the Ghost in the Shell discussion to be pretty interesting, I think art is at its best when it keeps talking to its audience, if that makes sense. Since you guys mentioned Legend of the Galactic Heroes, there was this one quote from the novels that stuck with me ever since the election. I’m pretty sure this scene wasn’t in the OVA, but I know it was a small scene in DNT somewhere, so somebody might be familiar with it. It was of a young Yang Wen-li asking his dad why people supported such a terrible man like Rudolf in the first place. To paraphrase a bit, his dad tells him that the people of the Empire didn’t want to fix their problems on their own, they were waiting for a supposed saint to show up and shoulder all their problems on his own, but it’s what he says after this that really stuck with me, “It’s the ones who empower a dictator who deserve most of the blame. But the ones who don’t support him actively-who watch it happening without saying anything-they’re just as much to blame.”
I kind of yapped a lot in all this but my main point is I wish I could go back two years ago where this quote didn’t remind me so much of the current state of America. Or this quote from the OVA for that matter.
I think you’re right, that scene was in DNT but not the OVA, but it’s been awhile. I was recently trying to remember a specific episode where Julian basically accepts that democracy is probably not going to come back in his lifetime and thinks about laying the groundwork for it later. Unfortunately, LOGH will probably stay relevant as long as humans exist.
I know the specific moment your talking about has to be in season 4, I’m thinking maybe episodes 101-102? I could be wrong though
