I gotta agree that this is probably one of the strongest seasons in a while.
Besides the ones already covered in the podcast, i’ve been digging See You Tomorrow At the Food Court, which is one of those “one girl complains about everything and is a total weirdo while another listens to her and tries to be the voice of reason” series, sort of modern-ish manzai i guess? It’s nice and chill, and considering it’s only 6 eps, doesn’t overstay its welcome. Dress-up Darling s2 continues to be lavishly animated and very cute, and so far has none of the creepy fanservice bits from s1, which is appreciated. I’ve also been enjoying “There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless…” which you can probably tell from the title and cover that it’s a kinda trashy yuri romcom, but it’s been pretty fun. Helps that it’s the first GL in years to (seemingly) have more than a shoestring budget to work with.
On the anime-adjacent side, Leviathan is Studio Orange’s newest project, an adaptation of some american YA novels, and it’s not really anything special, but it’s a pretty entertaining story set in a very neat world that’s a sort of alternate bio-steampunk WW2. On the other hand, there’s To Be Hero X, which is a chinese superhero anthology, and it started out quite fun, but quickly devolved into a mess of lackluster payoffs and confusing worldbuilding. Almost a checklist of how not to create a superhero world. I’m still watching it, though, 18 episodes in, cause every once in a while it’ll drop a pretty cool episode. Or at least that’s what i tell myself.
Really fun episode! I’m always looking forward to these ever since i found y’all last year.
Thanks for the recommendations and thanks for listening, I’ll have to take a look at some of these when I can. I remember I did try to watch Dress Up Darling S1 and couldn’t get into it, but good to hear it sounds like S2 is an improvement.
CITY remains the breakout hit for me. I literally guffawed when the takoyaki flashback started up, I don’t think an anime has done that to me since Kaguya-sama.
That is still the biggest laugh so far, and we’ll be talking about the amazing episode 5 in our next episode.
