We’re nearing the mid point of the season and even the best shows like Sakura Quest and Rage of Bahamut seem to be spinning their wheels a bit. I’m not too concerned but I do wish they’d get on with it already. At least Nina is providing me with an endless supply of faces to use for The Roundup header images.
Weeks have passed with no news on Ctholly’s mission. Willem is anxious but continues to keep up with his work. He escorts Tiat to the hospital for a check up. She is awakening to her powers and needs to begin her training.
It seems #HATEWATCH is catching on as Re:Creators was bad enough for Iro to handle separately this week (stay tuned) and I’m quickly losing interest in Atom: The Beginning’s glacial pacing and flat writing. Marlin and I also almost turned on our favorite sleeper hit Tsukigakirei, but fortunately the rest of the Roundup is good enough to keep us motivated.
Willem reveals the true power of the Dug Weapons and presents the possibility of Ctholly avoiding death in the upcoming battle. With this new information, Ctholly tries to decide her best course of action.
The slow but potentially good Atom: The Beginning joins the Roundup along with season 2 of The Eccentric Family, which has already proven its quality. Most everything else passes the three episode test save for Re:Creators, which Iro and I are still watching for some reason.
Willem tries to get along with the girls while discovering the truth about the weapons he’s been sent to keep an eye on. Ctholly reveals why she’s been reluctant to get close to Willem.
Despite what you may have read in our first looks at the spring season, we do still like anime! We’re kicking off the next Roundup with Sakura Quest, Tsukigakirei, Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul, Re:Creators, and the return of Little Witch Academia. Who knows, maybe we’ll even add a few extra after we catch more second episodes. Stay tuned.

Guri is an angel or cupid or something that wields the “Kiss Note” – it’s a Death Note but write people’s names in it and they will kiss within 24 hours. Well, it actually is a death note since if you DON’T kiss that person you die. Naturally, she is bad at her job and accidentally writes in a wrong name and her ensuing attempts to fix the situation only make things worse.
Heine Wittgenstein is a tiny little man who has been summoned by the king to tutor his sons. This is no easy task as the princes are all spoiled brats who have chased away their previous tutors. It’s up to Heine to get to know the princes and adapt his teaching methods to get through to them.
Ao is a bored high school girl who gets a mysterious package in the mail. In the package is a protoype “frame arms girl”, basically gunpla but the robots are cute girls with no pants. She is hired to test the new model by battling with other frame arms girls.

It’s been a long journey though decades of history, but the curtain has fallen on this storyteller’s story. More than just introducing a new generation to a lost art, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is also a deeply personal tale full of tragedy but also love. It’s the last Roundup of the winter season and we say good bye to Seiren and Interviews with Monster Girls while Classicaloid and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid stubbornly hold on for another episode.
Part 3 features the new series by Oreimo’s Tsukasa Fushimi, Eromanga Sensei, and so by default is the worst part of the preview guide. Fortunately it also features the return The Eccentric Family, which I must admit has been sitting at the top of my backlog for quite some time. There’s also an unusually high amount shows coming back this season that we we wouldn’t normally cover, so let us know if we are missing out on anything good.
Part 2 of our season guide is headlined by the return of another GLORIO favorite, Rage of Bahamut. Unfortunately the rest of this block is looking a bit bland, and I’m predicting the super meta Re:Creators is going to be a big hit for better or worse. But hey, half the fun of a new anime season is finding a show that proves us wrong. Let us know what you plan on checking out.
Another season is almost in the books and once again it’s time to look ahead at new shows. Spring is loaded with returning favorites, so many that I will actually post a list of the ones we are not planning to cover in part 3 of the guide. As for our first part, it’s headlined by the return of GLORIO favorite My Hero Academia. In our second to last Roundup for Winter, we say goodbye to March Comes In Like a Lion with an extremely disappointing final episode, but at least we know it will return later this year. Fortunately the rest of the shows land pretty solid setups for their final episodes of the season, so it looks like we’ll be ending on a high note.
