The Spring 2018 anime season is rapidly approaching, so we do the responsible thing and talk about some of the notable shows worth keeping an eye on. Join us as Iro displays his mastery of segues, Gee sells us on Golden Kamuy, and Zigg reveals he loves punching dogs.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest and worst things to ever happen to gaming: the Metal Gear Solid series. The series (and its MSX predecessors) have baffled and delighted gamers for decades, serving up an inimitable mix of social commentary, action movie escapades and bizarre medium games. Long time fan of the series Zigg is playing through every game fresh and looking back on them from a modern perspective. Warning – spoilers ahoy!
This week: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PlayStation 2/Xbox/PC, 2001)
Our two remaining combatants have picked a good time to peak. Both Takagi-san and A Place Further Than the Universe deliver great episodes this week, leaving us with a tough choice. Decisions have been made, but the results may be a bit surprising.

After a tough fight to crawl into the top 3 last week, it’s probably no surprise to see School Babysitters struggle this week. More shocking is watching A Place Further Than the Universe deliver two average, maybe even *GASP* below average episodes in a row. With Takagi-san peaking at the right time, we could be in for a very interesting final showdown.
Our heroes are saved from the rampaging Rogue by Misora’s sudden awakening to mysterious powers, but Gentoku is still determined to get his hands on Pandora’s Box.
It’s beachtime for everyone!… even though the only environments we’ve ever seen are deserts. Afterwards, contrived substance Klaxosaur causes sexual tension between the sexes. Fun….
This season, eight cute shows entered the ring in a fight to the death. One will reign victorious, but not in this feature, as our overview of the best theme songs of the season has no love for any of the combatants in The Roundup‘s cute show battle royale extravaganza. What do we have, then?…
If there’s one thing we like to talk about besides anime, it’s men in rubber suits beating up other men in rubber suits while everything behind them explodes. Join newbie Jel as he gets schooled by Zigg, Aquagaze, and Iro on all things tokusatsu, particularly the long running Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series.
With seemingly unlimited power at his disposal, Gentoku leads the invasion of Touto, forcing Build and Grease to team up in an attempt to put him down.
A rough week for the Battle Royale as all four of our remaining shows fail to put out a great episode. Laid Back Camp and School Babysitters struggle with sub par outings, but even Takagi-san and, dare I say it, A Place Further Than the Universe have issues of their own. It all culminates in the most difficult elimination yet, and it ain’t gettin’ easier from here on.
No amount of bad audio, technical difficulties, or even the anime police can stop Jel, Iro, and Marlin from getting of their takes on this season’s bottomless pit of cute shows. We geek out about March Comes In Like a Lion, Dagashi Kashi, and the remaining contenders in our Cute Anime Battle Royale. Seriously though, apologies for the poor sound quality, we will do better next time.
Love is in the air as School Babysitters and Takagi-san double down on their romantic plot lines. On the flip side, A Place Further Than the Universe has a whole lot of vomiting, although I suppose true love is being able to throw up in front of someone without shame… OK, look, I’m just stalling because we’re approaching the end of the Battle Royale and I don’t want to cut any of these shows. AHHH!
Sentou’s new Hazard Trigger grants him incredible power, but at a terrible cost. Meanwhile, Seito enters the conflict with its own Kamen Rider, who has a history with our heroes…
The day of the assault is here, and Hiro is determined to pilot, even if it kills him. The fight seems to go as planned, until a bizarre, gargantuan klaxosaur brings Hiro to the brink.
“Your Thorn, My Badge” Saturdays at 12:00 pm EST on Crunchyroll Well, after a week of letting y’all decide on what show I’d watch, we ended up with a tie. Now, apparently in Japan tying is like kissing your sister, so considering the bad implications anime has given to that, we’ve decided to break the tie…
The Lupinrangers are a team of phantom thieves aiming to steal back the scattered pieces of the mysterious Lupin Collection by any means necessary. The Patrangers are the starched collar cops out to bring them to justice. For the first time ever it’s Sentai versus Sentai in a fight to the finish!
The competition is getting fierce as we hit the halfway mark of the season and I’m starting to contemplate cutting shows I actually like. Ms. Koizumi, Laid Back Camp, and not surprisingly A Place Further Than the Universe all have solid episodes, but Sanrio Boys, School Babysitters, and even Takagi-san expose some of their nagging flaws. Will one of those be the next to get axed? Read on.
After a year in space it’s time to come back down to Earth and talk about what we thought of the 41st Super Sentai
