A decade after it came out, Mahoutsukai no Yoru is finally translated. But is it any good?

It’s been 15 years. Was it worth it? (No.)
We’ve entered a reality where Fate is one of the biggest franchises around. Fate/Grand Order (the gacha-based mobile game) alone passed the $3 billion marker in gross revenue in 2019, meaning it’s made about as much money as the entire Legend of Zelda game series combined. How did this franchise, unknown in 2010, become an international juggernaut?
Adapting the 7th major arc of the Fate/Grand Order mobile game, Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia follows blank slate mobile game protagonist Ritsuka Fujimaru and literally-grown-in-a-lab female lead Mash Kyrielight as they enter “The 7th Singularity” (the past six weren’t popular enough to get adapted into anime, except the 6th which takes place right before this but won’t air until 2020 at the earliest) – the eponymous “Absolute Demonic Front” in Babylon, 2655 B.C.E. – to prevent the extinction of humanity.
Years after the events of Fate/Zero, Waver Velvet has risen the ranks in the Mage’s Association and been given the title of Lord El-Melloi II, but he still can’t help getting dragged into trouble at every turn.

It’s another Holy Grail War! But this one’s on the moon! And also a video game! And animated by Shaft!
As GLORIO’s official Type-Moon fan as well as a SoCal local, I was legally obligated to attend the USA premiere of the newest UFOtable Fate project, a film adaptation of Heaven’s Feel, the original visual novel’s third and final route. Or, to be more accurate, the first of three film adaptations of Heaven’s Feel. So, naturally, I bound and gagged fellow crewmember Gee-Man in my passenger’s seat and braved the infinite perils of downtown Los Angeles to discover if it was all worth the wait.
The Great Holy Grail War continues, and the machinations of the Red Faction come to light. I also talk some shit about the Fate franchise!
As Ruler makes her way to Trifas, one of Yggmillennia’s homunculi escapes confinement.
We get to know some of the colorful characters participating in the Holy Grail War.
When a miracle is declared in the Catholic Church sends examiners to verify their authenticity. This is apparently how Japan thinks that works, so it’s pretty much all gothic horror and occultism.
It’s another Holy Grail War, but now it’s 7-on-7 team-based multiplayer!
