Nope, you’re not reading that wrong. I was on a roll writing yesterday, and am now on track for your regularly scheduled programming. Look forward to more Chocolate every Saturday!
Recap: Oojima and crew are well on their way through the planning stages of the election when a high profile beneficiary pays them a visit. Later, our President pays a visit to the sensei and things get awkward for no adequately explored reason. Will this show ever have an appropriate execution of drama?
Our show seems to be keeping its formula up from the week before as we start out with another comedy scene. The crew are trying to launch their campaign off the ground, too bad no one seems to know where they’re gonna get the wings. Thankfully Mori comes back into the scene to bail them out, giving some reason as to why he was so jovial to Oojima last episode when he had never even met him. With his crew out of the running he’s gotta back a horse somehow, and has decided to bet on the plucky Oojima.
What follows is a lot of intrigue and dramatics more reminiscent of stories about real politics. Hidden agendas are prodded at and family politics are flowing into the race. It seems a lot of what this show is going for is this take as if this random shmuck decided to run for senator or something, like a less ridiculous version of that upcoming Will Ferrell movie.
As an aside, a strange focus has been put on harem member Morishita this episode. It was an interesting feel, the plot of the episode seemed to be putting focus on her while still keeping her in the background, basically how she was introduced to begin with. She is shown with that strange focus for only a few seconds as the President decides to give a weird creeper stare in one scene, only to be later seen stalking our MC as he goes to buy groceries.. Whether this was just to make her seem mysterious or if this will continue to next episode is yet to be seen.
After the light campaigning talk and the joke quota seemed to be fulfilled, the fun ends and random seriousness begins. Our rival has a talking showdown with the teacher, accusing her of acting out of spite against the candy club. The teacher’s monologue only opens up more questions about this clandestine school’s operations. Later, it is revealed Oojima bought these groceries for a meal with the teacher.
This scene in and of itself just brings up so many questions. Is it a translator error that he responds to Chisato that he was eating with his mom? Is it just a pet name for her or was he just lying to her? The conversation seems to imply they made out so I can only hope it’s one of the latter. The entire event culminates in a farewell causing a rapid change in emotion, just like last week. They really know how to open up with their light fluff to fill you up and then hit you hard with intrigue and perceived trauma to keep you going. I will admit, while this schizophrenic storytelling style has me off-kilter, it definitely is a good hook for keeping me interested in the next episode.
