Hidamari Sketch x Honeycomb Episode 10: The G-Word

Here comes trouble.

Here comes trouble.

Summary: In the first half, Yuno and Miyako enjoy the first snow of the year, despite having to study for their exams. Miyako also fails horribly at becoming a poet. In the second half, Sae’s little sister Chika makes her obligatory, one-per-season return to Hidamari Apartments to adress some enormous elephants in the room.

Oh dear, they mentioned the G-word! Like hell they’re ever going to let Hiro and Sae graduate. Time has been increasingly progressing a whole lot slower in Honeycomb, just to avoid this inevitable swerve, and nor SHAFT nor Aoki Ume seem to be planning on letting the seniors leave the show any time soon. They must have learnt their lesson from that new K-ON! manga set in college. Then again, given that both are also massive trolls, the drama bomb did have to be dropped at least for a few minutes — which is obligatory for a season’s obligatory Chika episode. Then everyone took a bit from Hiro’s XTC-infested gyoza and all was happy again. Hidamari Sketch, sometimes I just want to strangle you.

This is also my reaction when I find out I have a test I didn't know about.

No one could muster up the courage to tell Miya no one really enjoyed those Turtlegirl fanfics of hers.

Yup. they're sisters.

Nazuna is the only person in the universe to get confused about ravioli. Also, Nori is kind of a bitch.

Chika doesn't deserve her own ending card, apparently.

Random observations

  • Not many screencaps today, for this episode was actually rather lacking in the artsy-fartsy department.
  • I have noticed that with a little imagination, literally every line in Hidamari Sketch just becomes lesbian subtext. “Study”, huh?
  • Speaking of which, Sae has a two-person futon as her bed. I wonder why…
  • Chika’s status as the official Sixth Ranger of the Hidamari crew has been confirmed by her getting her own symbol, which can be briefly seen during the gyoza scane. It’s a rectangle representing her hair clip.
  • Despite acting rather obnoxiously, Chika does have a point: Why does Sae have to go to an expensive art school when she plans on getting a regular lit degree?
