Recap: Equipped with new gear, ED and his men track down Kon and the rest of the group. After a brief skirmish, each side takes a prisoner, setting events in motion for a final showdown.
Jel’s Thoughts: whuuuh what just happened? I feel confused and kind of sticky. I think it’s pretty obvious where Ixion is headed next, but this episode got us there in the most incredibly stupid and brilliant ways possible.
I did complain about giving ED’s lackeys their own episode earlier, and I still think that could have been trimmed down BUT it was pretty clever and funny to see their vices used against them after they were so prominently brought to our attention. Sending Mariandale over to be interrogated by ED was pretty funny too but probably didn’t live up to its full potential. I would have liked to see them fall a little harder for her charms before moving on to other things.
Of course that was all business as usual, including the completely random dumping gallons of lube all over our villains. That’s about when things starting getting a little weird, you know the part where they KILL KON AND THE PRINCESS??? I mean, I’m totally not buying that their dead, but just the smallest part of me has to wonder in a show so irreverent and defiant towards its source material I do wonder if it’s going to be that obvious. Normal logic would say they faked their death (they did make a point to emphasize they would follow them until they die) and Sainglain and Mariandale are going to split up and play along. I’m just not totally sure Ixion is going to go with “normal logic” this time.
As far as I can tell next episode is the finale, so we’ll see if we can wrap up the princess inevitably reaching the capital, Kon’s return home, and the true identity of the woman that’s been following them all this time. In the meantime, have you seen the trailer for the game the anime is based on? It’s pretty funny to watch now if you’ve been keeping up with the series, and honestly I’m not sure how Capcom is even allowing this. I’ll save that for my Final Impressions though, let’s see how they finish things first.
