Recap: Kon visits a Hyperion research facility to find more information about returning home, but this proves to be more dangerous than expected. After surviving his encounter, he rejoins the group as they help Ecarlate on her first of eighteen wedding trials.
Jel’s Thoughts: Is it possible to have an info dump episode without learning anything AND still be funny? Somehow Ixion pulls it off. I really was expecting to learn more about Hyperions and the mysterious floating city of Olvidia, but at most we just got clarification on things we already knew or would have assumed at this point. Hyperions use Alma energy, Olvidia is a mysterious floating city, GOT IT. Fortunately our youthful scientist and his assistants were good for some well timed jokes to break up the explanations. The big “ONII-CHAAAAN!!!” gag was just a great example of the weird, unique sense of humor this show has.
Of longer term interest though is our setup for presumably the final arc of the story. I really like the idea of these ridiculous, completely unnecessary trials Ecarlate and company will have to endure. They are pretty much giving the writers a free pass to dream up whatever they want, and from what we’ve seen so far they’ve got some pretty active imaginations. Add in ED and the rest of Incognito trying to finish their mission and there is tremendous comedic potential for the next couple of episodes. As I keep mentioning every week, it’s only a matter of time before everyone joins forces, and I’m starting to wonder how much of an emotional impact this is all going to have once it ends? Every time Ecarlate mentions Kon leaving I feel a little more sad than I would expect, and I may have grown a lot more attached to these characters than I realize. So hit us with all you got, Ixion, I’m really looking forward to it.
