Recap: After the success of their first operation, our team of hapless heroes have to deal with the worst of all opponents: the media.

Iro’s Thoughts:
I like how this show has been taking a relatively realistic approach to things. Our team of misfits defends a base against all odds? New media darlings for government propaganda! Some good jokes are milked out of their newfound celebrity status (the mecha with sponsor logos and the nerd checking the livestream Nico Video comments were particularly funny), as well as a bit of drama when they get to meet the civilians they saved. Despite the characters essentially being anime caricatures in the first episode, stuff like this manages to bring a human element into the mix. They’re still people, and thus mostly still act like somewhat awkward teens.

Things get a little more serious in the second half. We get a glimpse of the mysterious girl from the OP sequence, and the Majestic Princes get sortied for… a routine repair mission, with all the media in attendance. The mecha being base units with the specialized stuff as armor of sorts is a cool idea, and it’s an easy way to inject some drama into the situation: the parts aren’t done with maintenance, so they have to launch separate bits to deal with the sudden alien attack. Lastly, we get a glimpse of the enemy ace and end on a somber note with a relative loss for our heroes.

Lifesong’s Thoughts:
Another fun episode, I really like the way these characters are different from the mecha norm. They feel genuine in way that makes them instantly likable for me. It’s the little stuff like the way the nerd rambles on about his weapon specs, or the way the hero was literately inspired to become a hero by super sentai shows. The NicoNico comment scroll just did me in. Tablets feel so natural in mecha, it’s odd to think that they are a new addition. I also love the subtle hints of darker things by the older members of the cast. I hope that we are for some dark twists as this show progresses. I would like to see how this cast deals with them.
