Recap: GAINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAX!!!!
Gee’s Thoughts: This episode took us to a weirder location, that’s for sure. Now, I have no clue if this was something from the original manga or if this is just classic Gainax fucking with us, but this week’s events definitely came out of left field. Setting itself up as a training arc episode, Sonora takes Yura to a freaking Shinto shrine to train in the art of airsoft marksmanship. Following some of the must ludicrously zen-bullshit sage advice, Yura begins to see things again. Turns out that Yura’s delusions apparently have some straight-up reality warping properties, allowing her to even alter the course of history itself through her actions.
I don’t even know what to say about this. On one hand, it is so random and absurd that I can’t help but wonder if this is a one-off joke or if it’s a hint of things to come. With next week’s episode being a beach episode, I am utterly confused at the kind of tone C3-Bu is trying to take here. On the other hand, the fact that Yura took the goddamn Scorpion vz. 61 (Klobb for you Goldene 64 fans) of all things and out-shot a Samurai, changing history forever, is ridiculously awesome.
Once again, C3-Bu continues to confuse, yet entertain and surprise me. I don’t know what’s going on what’s going to happen to this show, but congratulations C3-Bu, you’ve managed to keep me in for another week.
Iro’s Thoughts: So Yura deployed her Reality Marble and changed history by opening fire on Genpei forces with an airsoft submachinegun possessed by the ghost of a feudal archer.
I’m not sure how I should react to this.
