Recap: The C3 club goes to an island to play some games with a local team. Yura goes full operator-mode.
Gee’s Thoughts: For a beach episode, this was surprisingly not-terrible. In fact, the airsoft antics took up more screen time while the beach antics themselves were relegated to a short montage. I guess having utterly rock bottom expectations for C3-Bu has done wonders for my enjoyment of the show. The fact that the show is basically competent half the time has me impressed. I’m not sure what that says about what I expect out of the average anime. Still, ignoring the occasional shot and joke, C3-Bu managed to keep the fanservice to a relative minimum for a beach episode, something I appreciated.
Instead, we get to see them take on yet another gimmicky team, though instead of mall-ninjas, we’re getting the Seto Family, a team comprised entirely of girls with the surname Seto. While I question their somewhat impractical tactics, it was a fun couple of matches. And hey, there’s a feisty tan-skinned tomboy with an Ingram MAC-10, so a girl already after my heart in a variety of ways.
Alas, we don’t get to witness Yura’s time traveling powers this episode, though I suppose those will likely be a rare occurrence. Instead, we get to see Yura take a few levels in ability and competence as an airsoft player. In the span of 5 episodes, she’s gone from shy timid viewer-insert into an assertive team player who’s in control of her own agency. Still there are hints, especially from Sonora’s reaction and Yura’s nightmare, that not all is well with her and that her sudden growth as a player may in fact be detrimental. Where a show about cute girls doing cute things (with guns) is going to go with this subplot, I don’t know. Still, Sonora must be concerned for some reason or another so I guess we’ll find out later down the road.
