Lifesong’s Verdict: Pleasantly Surprised

If you followed my sporadic coverage of season 1 you know that I wasn’t so fond of it. Mio’s route is the only route of the story I really felt fit KEY’s storytelling style and had many other little issues I could complain about here, but won’t. Episode 1 of Refrain was a complete reversal on my expectations.

KEY’s signature storytelling is back in force and this first episode was just plain fun. Kurugaya’s reactions in this episode sent a chill down my spine and the fantastical element with the secret of the world is finally starting to come out and boy it’s not at all what I was thinking it would be. I’m having fun, that is more than I could say for much of season 1.
