Recap: After fending off a knife-wielding drunk, Samurai Flamenco meets an odd stationary developer, who endevours to equip him with gadgets for just such an occasion. After going back on the town, he comes to find out an even bigger bounty has been put on his identity, and now the entire town is out on the hunt.
I was wondering how long we’d have to wait before seeing the good doctor, or whatever his actual title is. I have a soft spot for mad scientist types, so finally seeing his debut was much anticipated. At first I thought he was the creator of the myriad of self-defense weapons installed in Flamenco Girl’s staff, but it would appear that must have been a third party, as all his equipment is much more benign than her frightening repertoire.
Goto’s words to Mari were really sweet. Mari is obviously an attractive girl, and even though their relationship is strained, to see Goto stand up to her obvious flirting and establish his love were great for his character. Good on him too, as Mari is obviously six kinds of crazy. I was worried that the girlfriend subplot was going to get axed just to pair the two together. I do wish we could actually get a glimpse of the girl for once, though.
This might have been my favorite episode since umbrella capers. Hazama proves the strength of his character by coming to the aid of people, any people, as long as there is a possibility they might actually need help. It may just be because of my philosophies but there’s just so much to admire about a guy who will stick to his values even when the world exploits them. It’s the measure of true justice that it does not discriminate, that it exists to help all people, and it is only by corruption of the soul that that true justice falls. Hazama is a guy you can really get behind, and it seems Goto is finally coming around to his way of thinking. Now that we have the full cast of characters, I can’t wait to see what this show has next.
