Kill la Kill: Episode 11

Recap: Ryuko faces a mysterious girl in the form of Nui Harime, the Grand Couturier of the Kiryuin family.

Gee’s Thoughts: I’m sorry everybody. I keep saying things are getting crazy every week, but seriously: Shit is getting real. The first half is devoted to finishing off Nonon, which proves to be an exciting, if somewhat conventional finish. For those of us who were expecting some kind of ridiculous mental breakdown or her getting verbally shut down by Satsuki will be disappointed. I was personally hoping we’d get another flashback, but alas, it seems like Kill la Kill is just going through the Elite Four as quickly as they can to rush the plot forward. That said, it seems like Trigger created Kill la Kill specifically to feature each and every single one of my anime guilty pleasures, this time giving me a good ol’ energy blast battle between Ryuko and Nonon, accompanied by music that changes with the tempo of the fight. I don’t know why, but I love it so all the same.

In addition, we get another person added to the bleachers with Mako and the others. I honest to god hope Sanageyama ends up in those bleachers soon. Mako interacting with just about anything is a recipe for comedy gold, and seeing Gamagoori’s bizarre approval of Mako’s ethos is hilarious. Against all odds, the man seems to be the only person other than Mako who gives her the time of day. After their absurd conversation in episode 4, I hoped it would continue to be a thing, and I’m glad Kill la Kill does not disappoint in that department.

However, it’s the latter half where things get truly interesting. The final fight with Sanageyama is (predictably) interrupted by Nui, the mysterious girl introduced at the beginning. This girl is some bad news, you can just tell. The menacing music, Satsuki actually panicking, and the girl’s unnerving ability to break the fourth wall like Mako has me believing some real shit is going to go down soon. In addition, Satsuki’s mother, Ragyo Kiryuin is officially revealed, in all her shiny rainbow glory. I suppose it’s obvious in retrospect that anybody related to Satsuki would also radiate lights with every step. Just saying, this lady could hang out with the JoJo cast. It’s obvious they’re setting her up to be a long term villain, and I look forward to seeing what she brings to the table.

Back at Honnouji, my fears were confirmed when Nui reveals her own scissor blade, claiming to be the one responsible for the death of Ryuko’s father. Suffice to say, with this reveal and Ryuko going full berserk, I think we’re going to have some exciting episodes in the near future. Along with Nudist Beach’s involvement, it’s clear that things aren’t going to go in Ryuko’s favor and I can’t wait to see how she crashes and burns.
