Recap: Despite having a rich girlfriend, Tada Banri decides he doesn’t want to be dead weight and starts looking for a job. After turning down some slightly less suspicious prospects, he accepts an offer from Nana.
Jel’s Thoughts: I think these past two episodes have really defined the message that Golden Time is going for, and it’s probably bad news for Team Linda. Last week we saw Tada Banri (and yes I am going to refer to him by his full name like most of the cast because I find it amusing) literally just lay down and let Linda take care of him, sliding right back into his role as her irresponsible little brother. Things are different with Koko however, as he takes the responsible adult route in getting a job. It’s not to hard to correlate that to into a message about growing up and being an adult, meaning in the long run Linda is probably not good for him.
And so the issue can really be summed up with Iro’s favorite thing to yell at the screen while watching Golden Time, “GET OUT AMNESIA GHOST”. I actually thought he had been separated again by the end of last episode, but I guess he’s still in control right now? Whoever is in charge, lying to Koko was a HORRIBLE idea and that kind of cancels out his original good intentions on getting a job. Between that and the not so surprising reveal that she has the photo of him with Linda, I will now reference MY favorite thing to yell at the screen, “THIS CANNOT END WELL”. I do wonder if Amnesia Ghost is going to stick around as any permanent merger kind of negates the whole point of having him around in the first place. Everything Golden Time has done so far makes me think they know what they’re doing, so I have a feeling he’ll be separate again at some point.
One of things I do appreciate about Golden Time is no matter how serious the drama it never loses its light hearted side. The crazy party gig was another great example of the show retaining its sense of humor, and I wasn’t complaining about Devil Twin Nana by any means (both Iro and I were also yelling “forget the other two, go with Nana” at the screen, but I suppose if she really is that Nana she’s already spoken for). Tada Banri’s sense of humor is particularly great, as most anime protagonists would have been freaking out at the prospect of dressing up as a maid. It helps make a series much more relatable when it, much like real life, can take the good with the bad. As you may have noticed I’m taking over coverage for Marlin as our lineup will be shuffling for the new season, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Marlin’s Thoughts: But that doesn’t mean I’ll be totally out of the picture. Poor Koko, the girl just keeps swinging back on different sides of crazy but you can’t help but find it a little endearing. She seems to be trying way harder in this relationship. She’s so desperate to avoid what happened with Mitsuo that she doesn’t realize that’s what drove him away in the first place. The way I see it, she actually kind of needs Banri to be a jerk to her a little. If it means she finally takes stock in what she wants and deserves, instead of blaming herself for everything, it will be for the better. I think As far as Amnesia Ghost involvement is at this point, I think he left feelings that were rooted in those old memories, that’s why he suddenly has feelings for Linda.

A passing comment on Crunchyroll on this episode’s cameo made me check out Miss Monochrome, Horie Yui’s other anime this season with a leading role. It is funny and remarkably endearing despite its less than 4 minutes per episode format.
Trust me, I’m all over Miss Monochrome. i loved it but it was just too short to justify a weekly recap.
Yeah. I realised reading a recap would probably take longer than just watching it. Just thought I should mention it to snag a few more viewers for the show.
I was considering writing a final impressions but we have (spoilers) a lot of fun year end posts coming soon so I may not have time. That studio is worth keeping an eye on if they ever get a full length series, they seem to really have a knack for subtlety similar to KyoAni or PA Works.
