Gee’s Thoughts
Things finally come to a head as Ryuko and Satsuki clash one more time. Oh Christ Trigger, at this point I would forgive you if you took some of that Little Witch Academia 2 money and funneled it into Kill la Kill. While this episode had some genuinely exciting animated scenes and the episode itself was wildly exciting, it was also a stark reminder of Trigger’s pitiful budget. Still, we did get some good scenes out of it, including the Elite Four’s crazy new transformations. While I wish said transformations got a little more screen time, I am simply reminded of Gurren Lagann’s increasingly escalating transformations, some only getting 1-2 episodes of screen time at most before moving on to the next bigger thing.
Overall, there isn’t as much to say about this episode as you might think. Ryuko, using the power of friendship and the mutual trust between her and Senketsu, form her kamui without a piece despite it being a ridiculously dangerous thing to do. And later again, trusting in Senketsu as a friend, allows her to overcome Satsuki and turn the tables. Interestingly, we have a bit of a subplot going on in the background between Gamagoori and Mako. Whether the shippers are actually spot on with this one or not, I’ve noticed over the course of the past few episodes, that Gamagoori has taken quite the interest in the show’s best character. Whether he respects her simple straightforwardness or legitimately cares about her well being, only time will tell, but it’s an interesting development nonetheless.
Finally, Nudist Beach’s…flamboyant reveal was also quite something to behold. While I’ve yet to see anything about them that’s particularly special, their utterly ridiculous mecha walkers are…distinctive to say the least. Despite ending the episode with the mutual grudging respect between Satsuki and Ryuko, things still end in the former’s favor, with their ruse a success in exposing Nudist Beach and destroying their facilities. With Mikisugi promising to finally reveal everything he knows to Ryuko, it looks like things are falling into place for the final battle. As usual, I can’t wait for next week.
