Recap

Instead of the usual cast, we get to see another team in action, this time the focus on the First Platoon, consisting of Geronimo, Cyx, and Gaudi. Tasked with transporting a live specimen to DOGOO headquarters, things go awry after their plane crashes due to the blizzard.

Gee’s Thoughts

Instead of our usual bunch of crazies, we get a new set of crazies. And hey, there’s a tan girl with short hair, a giant axe, and predilection for using it with extreme prejudice, so that’s a win in my book. The pervading theme of this trio seems to be “light shotacon implications” and “holy shit transforming motorcycles and axe wielding crazies.” While Geronimo and Gaudi’s powers make some degree of sense, I was confused about Cyx’s ability to apparently turn into some kind of tank motorcycle until Iro explained Cyx’s origins as a Mongolian folk hero. Still, some cool, if somewhat straightforward powers.

This episode gave off a serious The Thing vibes, creepy possessed scientists and arctic stations included. The implications that Invasion Objects can take over humans is a scary one, but it’s thankfully sidestepped when we find out the scientist is just your regular run-of-the-mill homicidal maniac. Still, with the captured Invasion Object released, the team is forced to take it out.

Overall, the episode was a fun bit of filler from our regular antics and it shows. As much as I love Nobunagun, at times the show struggles to compete with even the likes of Kill la Kill in terms of visual fidelity. And in the grand scheme, it didn’t really do much to further the plot. Geronimo hates the cold (and might be kinda crazy), Cyx enjoys bullying Gaudi (and has really weird lips), and Gaudi has the hots for a (photoshopped) Sio. That’s basically the main thing established by this episode. Still, it was fun enough that I didn’t really care, and the references to The Thing gave the episode a pretty creepy undertone that was definitely a mix up from the usual antics. Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of these guys.
