Recap
Yukine runs off, and starts to give in to temptation. The sins hurt Yato just as he gets in a confrontation with the war god Bishamon. With a wide array of Regalia tools, Yato is put on the ropes. Thinking of no other option, Hiyori rushes to get help.
The action was beautiful this week. I love the idea of the higher gods, by nature of their fame, having a whole host of Regalia to help them in a fight. It lends greatly to the shounen trope of bringing out a new trick just as the hero thinks he’s safe. Despite how powerful he seems against normal Phantoms, he shows a lot of weakness when confronted with such a daunting force.
It’s a shame Hiyori was relegated to the sidelines again. For how often she seems to be trying to divekick something in the OP, she really hasn’t been able to affect the battles as much as I’d like. I suppose it does make sense that she wouldn’t enter a full out battle against such a powerful god, but it just makes me question her necessity outside of being a viewpoint character.
Still, the gag that Kofuku is so powerfully unlucky that her weapons tear a hole into the underworld was pretty great. Seeing Nora in action makes me really want to see what the full range of a Regalia’s powers are. First thing’s first though, Yukine needs to get his act together. A healthy amount of secrecy is good and all, but I’m ready to get to know these characters better. I’m hoping his struggles with temptation will be explained by us finally learning his story.
