Recap
The Invasion Objects seemingly revive the lost Imperial battleship the Yamato, and make an assault on the Panama Canal, intent on invading the Atlantic. Anime America, being the trigger happy blowhards they are, decide to nuke the hell out of it if DOGOO can’t stop it before it reaches the canal.
Gee’s Thoughts
We return to the usual cast of crazies this week, now with International geopolitics! This episode featured quite possibly one of the most hilariously inaccurate portrayals of US military doctrine I’ve seen in a while. Yes, Nobunagun is shonen anime with a few bells and whistles so I shouldn’t be surprised, but considering how much effort they go into making Sio this huge military nerd, you’d think they’d at least get basic military doctrine correct. Still, a fun episode overall, with Sio and the rest of the E-Gene crew taking out the possessed battleship. With the Invasion Objects basically trying a different plot every week, I can’t help but wonder what is their potential for adaptation and combat against humanity. They’ve tried a rather varied number of strategies, I can only assume they’ll keep trying out new ones as things escalate.
More interestingly than just Sio going trigger happy on the Musashi is when she gets captured by the Invasion Object core. Suddenly reliving the memories of its lost crew, it seems that the Invasion Objects can absorb the memories of humans they absorb. Could this be where they’re getting their seemingly limitless potential for adaptation? That said, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be addressed anytime in the near future, as anime like this tend to bring up points like this only to ignore them until much later. Still, Nobunagun continues to be a fun ride and I look forward to next week.
