Recap
After barely fending off the battleship class Invasion Object, an injured Sio is sent back to Japan to rest and recover. Not only does she get the chance to catch up with Asao, she also gets to deal with another Invasion Object incursion on the Japanese coast.
Gee’s Thoughts
Truly no rest for the wicked huh? Guess that’s what happens when the show you star in is formatted like a Saturday morning cartoon. While Asao rests up in Japan, Galileo isn’t looking too hot back at DOGOO. Additionally, it seems our heroes won’t have any reinforcements to deal with their newfound miniboss. The Invasion Objects have launched multiple invasions throughout the Pacific to drain DOGOO’s resources and available E-Gene manpower.
I found the musings about the Invasion Objects’ evolution abilities to be pretty interesting. If Vidocq’s hypothesis is true, the aliens are basically a hivemind of stem cells, capable of choosing which evolutionary path they take, allowing them to field a diverse army of biological creatures, bit vertebrates and invertebrates. At this point, I’m basically expecting them to start fielding dinosaurs and horrifying primordial sea monsters any moment now. No way you start talking about how these aliens can do all this crazy evolution shit without featuring some of the most terrifying evolved creatures to walk the face of the planet.
In fact, I’d almost argue it’s more interesting than Sio’s totally ballin’ spirit gun attack at the end of the episode. Don’t get me wrong, as the biggest Yu Yu Hakusho fan among the blog, I got hyped like nothing else when I saw her charging up her finger like that. At the same time, I figured eventually something would happen to make Sio more special than the other E-Gene Holders. Alas, like all Shonen, it is never content with the character merely being equal to their supporting cast. There must be something else they can do, and with Sio, it’s the ability to summon power without the use of an AU Ball. So while it was a cool moment, it also didn’t surprise me in the least. What the implications of this are, I don’t know, but if it means Sio will soon start going around busting ghosts and getting into ridiculous battles at crazy fighting tournaments, count me in. In all seriousness, should be interesting to see what the new power brings to the table.
