Recap

The Battleship class Invasion Object isn’t out of the fight just yet. With Sio in its clutches and the rest of the E-Gene holders struggling against the endless onslaught, things aren’t looking as good as planned.

Gee’s Thoughts

Another fun episode of Nobunagun to say the least. While the tentacles business still doesn’t really jive with me, the rest of the episode was the good ol’ Nobunagun ridiculous fun I’ve come to expect. The Invasion Object’s ridiculous evolution powers never seem to run out of tricks, this time in the form of the Battleship class Invasion Object giving birth to a second one mid-fight, transmitting all of its battle data to the second one. As if to add insult to injury, the second one evolves armor plating to deal with Sio’s rapidfire attacks. Out of the fire, into the giant perverted tentacle beast.

Elsewhere, Jack, Geronimo, and Hunter are having their own problems. Tasked with containing the redirected Invasion Objects, they find themselves literally outnumbered by the thousands. Thankfully, what with Jack and Geronimo being our resident axe-crazy blood knights, they do make their way through a lot of em. No lie, Geronimo’s berserker power up only makes me love her even more. Throw in the hilariously zany face and smoking pipe that pops out of her tomahawk, and you have a character so ridiculous that it could only exist in a show like this.

However, among all the fighting we learn two interesting things. First, Hunter’s a doctor, not a warrior. This is important. While he spends most of the episode crying for his life, he does come to a big revelation. The Invasion Objects’ rudimentary eyesight means they can’t distinguish friend from foe, simply attacking anything that moves. To prevent them from simply killing each other, all Invasion Objects have a gland that releases a pheromone that identifies each other as friendlies. With Hunter’s power apparently being a portable chemistry set that doubles as a melee murder weapon, he manages to discover a chemical compound that neutralizes said pheromones. With this new discovery, DOGOO might have its next best weapon against the aliens. And hey, if all the Invasion Objects he’s about to kill with this compound count, he might end up winning that bet too.

Second big revelation, Jack the Ripper is apparently a pretty helpful mentor. Okay, ignoring that, the real big thing is that Jack seems to have a second E-Gene power, in the angelic form of Nightingale Mode. Now, the historian in me immediately thinks of the famous nurse Florence Nightingale, which only leads to more questions. Marlin suggested to the rest of us that this may be the result of a single person holding the genes of multiple famous people. After all, enough crossing of genes and it’s not impossible to think two famous people could intertwine somewhere down the family tree. If that’s truly the case, that opens up a lot of possible combinations in the future. Still, this is just speculation, for all we know, Nobunagun is throwing rationality straight out the window and is going to reveal that Florence Nightingale was secretly Jack the Ripper. It’s not like Nobunagun isn’t already one of the craziest shows this season.
