One Week Friends Episode 7

friends7b Recap

Kaori has gained some new girlfriends as her social circle slowly widens. A little jealous, Yuki plans to make more time for just the two of them. Later, Yuki worries about losing Kaori over summer break, when they won’t be able to see each other as easily.

Adorable. There’s just no other word for this episode. From the girltalk about Kaori and Yuki’s relationship to the little moments between the two, this episode is chock full of moments that just gave me the fuzzies. Yuki’s apprehensions really make me harken back to all the times I’ve asked a girl out. Of course, they both don’t see it that way, but what else would you call it when two people meet up like that? I’m really glad the summer theme of these episodes has given them the opportunity to show Kaori in some really cute outfits. I’ve been dying to see her in the summer dress ever since watching the OP for the first time. I have to say I’m a bit disappointed that particular scene was so short. Hopefully the summer is just beginning. The ending was the icing on the cake. It was a bit of a random aside, but it had just the right amount of tenderness and teasing. Eventually Yuki’s gonna have to realize there might actually be as much feeling behind Kaori’s sentiments as he wants.

That said, Iro’s worries have sprung up once again. I will admit, in the context of a friendship, Yuki’s selfish acts of keeping Kaori to himself are creepy. However, I think we are beyond the point where we can say either party only views the other as a friend. Yuki doesn’t want to hang out with Kaori alone because he doesn’t want other people to talk to her, but because he wants to build a stronger bond, one that hopefully would turn romantic. It would only be creepy if he starts saying he wants her to spend time with him exclusively.

I was initially worried with this show because of how difficult it would be to believe that a romance could form when one party only has a week to get to know the other. With Kaori slowly keeping her memories of Yuki, this is a problem that is slowly disappearing with each episode. We might finally see some development on her end as well. Another problem this alleviates is that things are actually moving forward, and the story can be more continuous instead of solely episode to episode vignettes. After this episode, the romantic tension is really starting to ramp up.

  1. This episode, more than any other episode of anime this season, or in fact many seasons since time immemorial, may have induced me to pause the video to roll around on the floor over the cuteness overload.

    • I know, right? It’s the kind of episode that makes you feel like everything’s right in the world. I was filled with the most unbelievable sense of contentment.

    • In a somewhat related comment, I’d like to roll up Kaori in a carpet and take her home. I hope that’s not too weird.
