Hunter x Hunter Episode 130

HxH130-Pitou

Recap

Pouf convinces Pitou that Komugi is safe and well, meaning there’s no reason to avoid a fight with Gon. Discovering that Kite is long dead, Gon fights with himself over whether he or Pitou is to blame.

Euri’s thoughts

Pouf is certainly putting in a shift, rushing around in a panic to eradicate all evidence that Komugi ever existed. It’s a huge gamble to take when the person you’re up against could well be the strongest being in existence, but I suppose Pouf has never really thought about himself when it comes to his actions. It’s all about keeping Meruem on track for global domination, and even though the King seemed to be growing increasingly disinterested in this venture before his fight with Netero, Pouf deems it more important to return him to a pre-Komugi state. Again, this is all in service of the King, so it’s not like Pouf is being deliberately selfish, unless he’s evolved in a similar way to Youpi? It’s all quite interesting, especially as it seems awfully fitting that this fledgling regime is run by the second in command.

It’s kind of surprising that Killua and Palm, assassin and walking surveillance camera respectively, would speak so openly about what’s going on with Gon when they already know what kind of power Pouf has. If you can’t be sure if one of his clones is nearby, why on Earth would you say anything that could compromise his safety? Sure, Killua is the kind of guy who would say things deliberately to take advantage of the enemy acting upon it, but could that have been the case here? I don’t think so. Because of what Pouf overheard, it’s extremely likely that Gon could die to Pitou, and he’s not even aware of Pitou’s potential hostility. Even if Killua thought Gon could handle himself, there was nothing to say Pitou would even tell the truth about Kite upon arrival. It was lucky to get that much information, and any other handicaps are completely out of the question.

But here we have it. We’ve known since episode 85 that Kite is dead and that his body alone was reanimated, so save from any crazy deus ex machina (like lots of crying, life essence and a full revival after being blown apart by a nuke) that’s the way he was going to stay. After all, Pitou became completely disinterested in Kite once he was shambling about as a puppet, so there was no way he could be revived to full health as it would have been done already. Pitou’s explanation of Kite’s demise absolutely destroys Gon, and while he argues inside his head whether or not it’s his fault or Pitou’s, the leniency caused by Gon’s earlier goodwill is starting to wane. Pitou’s broken arm is being repaired, Gon is in no state to fight, and unless something significant happens soon (and it will…) Gon is sure to die. Be sure to watch the inevitable fight in the next episode, I guess!

Random observations

  • Palm seems to know that she can only observe the last three people she’s seen with her left eye, but if Pouf was the first person she saw with it, how would she know that it cycles?
  • I think Pouf could have cleaned up most of the hunters already if he’d taken advantage of the transformation ability we now know he has.
  • I find it hard to believe that Pitou would have phone signal in a different country, and that Pouf would know the phone number.
