Rage of Bahamut: Genesis Episode 6 & 6.5

bahamut6-2

Recap

Amira and company are spared the death sentence with a little intervention. We are then reminded of what happened in the first six episodes.

Euri’s thoughts

While the pace of episode six is considerably slower that the five before it, we do get a lot of valuable information about the role of Anatae, why the angels will not allow Amira to be harmed, and just how much of a douchebag Favaro can be. Not a bad summary for a single episode, that’s for sure, and that’s even without mentioning Rita using another arm rocket. It also allows the main cast to get a few things cleared up, such as Favaro not being a demon and potentially not involved in the death of Kaisar’s father.

We get to see that Orochimaru Martinet is the one who had Amira steal the angel half of the god key, and while we yet don’t understand his intentions, we do know that the chances of him doing it for a good reason (and not, say, the resurrection of Bahamut) are pretty slim. He must also be somewhat powerful to mess around with Azazel like that, and it certainly doesn’t bother me too much to see yesterday’s boss character taken down a notch. It’s just a bit of a shame that I end up thinking of The Binding of Isaac whenever Azazel’s name is mentioned. I’m a broken man, I know.

There’s not much to say about Favaro getting slapped by an understandably upset Amira other than “why did this take so long?”.

The episode was rounded off nicely with some more details about Jeanne d’Arc, and quite excitingly she’s not immediately confrontational with Favaro being in a place he shouldn’t be. Rather, her reaction to clarify the problem with Bahamut and her own position of ‘maybe the chosen one’ gives me some hope that she’ll become a lot more important. Yes, Favaro will probably end up being the chosen one because anime reasons, but I’ll take as many strong female characters as we can get. I mean, as much as we can get to counter the Cerberus butt shots.

What is there to say about episode 6.5? Not a lot, it seems. Apparently we have a mid-series recap due to the show being 12 episodes long and the slot running for thirteen weeks, so you can rest easy knowing it’s not animation problems. Time will tell if it was a missed opportunity for more content, but we seem to be doing okay in that regard. The part that stings is that this will only be a twelve episode series, so hopefully we end at a good moment rather than having the story rushed.

  1. I feel like you know so much more about the show than I. Martinet? Who is that?! Amira is a good strong female protag, a bit clueless but not so much so (cough Nanatsu no Taizai).
