Dudes with time powers fight time monsters, time time time.
Iro’s verdict: Not Worth Your Time
In the interest of saving time: while the directing (particularly some decent CG work) and music are stylish and fun, nothing else about the show is; skip it and use your time on something else.
Zigg’s verdict: Ticking Away
I’m a sucker for a good time travel story, but they’re tricky to pull off and require extremely high quality writing and pacing to prevent them either becoming huge exposition dumps or just massively confusing. Unfortunately, Chronos Ruler doesn’t have the chops to manage this, instead weaving together a bunch of muddy half-explanations and typically lame anime characterisation into a whole that’s severely underwhelming. There’s so many elements here that I’m tired of (‘quirky’ main character who goofs off when he should be fighting, emotional sister pining over a dead brother, special ability that drains the users life) that it coalesces into an utter cliche storm that had me struggling to keep my eyes open. That’s not to say it’s without redeeming factors – the surprisingly slick jazz soundtrack and creepy monster design spring to mind – but the overall effect is of something endlessly bland and utterly forgettable.
