Re: Buddy Daddies, I was having similar feelings about it, especially since the second episode where a dude shows up who is also a hitman but he’s a *bad* hitman you see, where it’s treated seriously when he kills in cold blood, unlike when our heroes do it, then it’s funny when they slaughter a bunch of mafioso and then casually blow their target’s brains out to light-hearted music. Honestly, the more I think about it the more certain I am that the show was actually written by an AI with the prompt “anime comedy with gun action, shippable hot guys, and a cute little girl”. Especially the part where the AI knows how to mix and match elements to create an output that fits the prompt, but since it doesn’t in fact know what it’s doing and can’t judge how well elements fit together as a whole.
I enjoyed High Card a lot more, even as it was trying a bit too hard to be cool (the second episode was better on that end). And for all its flaws, animation not being one as far as I’m concerned, I think Trigun Stampede doesn’t suck at being Trigun so far. It’s not good yet, but it might get there.
