The Glorio anime preview continues as we thread ever closer to the upcoming summer season. In the likely event that part one featured nothing for you to be excited for, this half of the lineup provides more limitless potential with the unlikely resurrection of Working!! and the even more surprising return of Dragon Ball to your television screen. For fans of even more screaming, Key is unleashing Charlotte, their first original anime project since Angel Beats!, while God Eater takes up the mantle of this season’s obligatory video game adaptation. Also present are an obligatory shoujo romance, an obligatory light novel adaptation about being stuck in a video game and the obligatory results of frenetic lobbying by the International Association of Teratogynophiliacs. It all sounds so uninteresting, it’s almost as if anime itself is telling us to go outside. But hey, if you’re excited for something, be sure to let us know.
Our heroes invade Ryudo Temple to stop Gil’s evil scheme and (for some reason) save Shinji. Saber destroys the Holy Grail after settling the score with Assassin, and Shirou uses Archer’s ultimate magic to defeat Gilgamesh.
Part 1 of our guide is headlined by the hopefully glorious train wreck that is Chaos Dragon and shamefully hides Shimoseka, the front runner for Worst Show of the Season. Somewhere in the middle we have the return of Aquarion and Symphogear, the hot blooded action of Gangsta and Ushio & Tora, and some unknown romantic comedy potential with Classroom Crisis. With that kind of lineup maybe “glorious train wreck” is the best any of these shows can hope for, but surely we will find the surprise hits like we always do. Take a look, judge for yourself, and let us know what you’ll be watching.
Kaori and Kousaka start practicing vigorously for the new audition. As the results start to seem one-sided, that asshole with the bow tries one last desperate plea to get Reina to throw the competition. With the stress finally getting too much, Reina reaches out to Kumiko for consolation.
It’s the penultimate Spring 2015 Roundup as our shows prepare for their finales or mid-series climax. Dogakobo’s offerings continue to fizzle out, SNAFU gears up for a possible strong finish, and for better or worse My Love Story, Ninja Slayer, Moe Nagato, and Arslan begin to burrow in for next season.
The Yamada Rollercoaster Finale continues on as Yamada quickly learns the identity of the last witch. However, it comes with a terrible price.
Join us for our Pilgrimage to Mecha – where I go back in time and catch up on some of the classics and hidden gems of the mecha genre. Whether it was before my time or I simply missed out on them, it’s time for me to watch them and let you know why you should too!
This time, I share my thoughts on the progenitor of the storied franchise: Mobile Suit Gundam
The results of the audition leave everyone shocked. A vicious rumor brings band development to a halt as Reina and Mr. Taki find themselves under fire.
Let’s hope the various Roundup shows are saving up some time and money for their final episodes as a whole lot of them got beat by the ugly stick. I’d expect that kind of thing from Ninja Slayer but when even Plastic Memories looks bad, something must be up.
‘Tis finally the season for annoying summer hits, so let’s all stay inside and reflect on the good old days before the calypso beats took over. Only it’s not the early 2000’s anymore and this is an anime blog, so the music isn’t going to be that much better. Especially since this season has been positively gasping for decent shows and decent songs to go with them, so don’t be surprised if you’re going to get a bit of déjà vu from this here feature. For what they’re worth, these are our favourite anime songs from the past season.
Maria decides she no longer wants her power and enlists Yamada’s help. He tracks down a so-called “Witch Killer” named Tamaki to remove it, but as always there are demands to be met and Student Council politics to navigate. Before Maria’s power can be removed, Yamada sees a glimpse of a future he is determined to change.
Archer’s speech finally concludes with Gilgamesh crashing the party. Rin and Shirou decide the only way to defeat him and destroy the Grail is to get freaky with mana transfer.
Klaus, Stephen A. Starphase, and Lucky Abrams meet with the LHOS, the group responsible for the barrier protecting New York City. More importantly, Leo, Zapp, and Zed need to find a place to eat lunch.
Days later and Sapphire is still feeling responsible for Hazuki’s hurt feelings. After a quick pep talk from Hazuki, everyone focuses back on the audition.
My Love Story!! and Plastic Memories deliver the Dos and Don’ts of good romance stories while Mikagura School Suite has apparently fired their stuff and put the main character in charge. CUT! Seriously, who wrote that episode…
The club finds the Fifth Witch who appears to be using her power to turn other first year students into delinquents. Yamada confronts her, her gang, and even the Student Council President in his search for answers.
As the Blood Breed recovers and Leo tries to figure out its true name, Zapp’s master calls in his other top student for help. After the incident Black gives White her final mission, leaving her with a very difficult decision to make.
Love abounds as the classic date festival comes to everyone’s minds. Hazuki confirms Kumiko’s lack of feelings for Shuichi, only to have Shuichi ask Kumiko out the next day. The next day, Shuichi presses for an answer, and an awkward dodge coincidentally lands her with Reina.
Maybe it’s the incoming Summer heat getting to us or I’m still coming down from the high of Sound! Euphonium episode 8, but a lot shows this week felt like they were just going through the motions. Fortunately the Bromance of My Love Story!! and the unique fantasy of Arslan can still hold things down while the other series aren’t at their best.
