With so much extra time on my hands this year, I got through loads of J-drama! That’s a lie of course, as I marathoned a bunch this month just so this wasn’t barebones. Come read if they were trash or not!
Like many people, this year has been rather busy for me for a variety of reasons both personal and practical. So rather than my usual arbitrary awards show with bespoke categories, I’ll just be going through all the anime I watched in 2020 in chronological order and giving each one the words I think they deserve, for either good or ill.
I have nothing to say about 2020 that we all don’t already know, and when anime was delayed and we had nothing to do in the middle of the year, I went back to ye olde manga sources and started reading some random stuff.
It’s hard to look back on this dumpster fire of a year and get enthusiastic about anything, but hey, at least there was some good anime? And so we are kicking off our annual look back at all the GLORIO anime and anime adjacent things we watched in 2020.
Before we get too deep into wrapping up 2020 anime, the GLORIO crew takes a look at what’s coming in the Winter 2021 season.
With the the shield around the portal book weakening, Touma and his allies must confront Calibur and his forces and prevent the dark Rider making his way to another world.
So it turns out Kento wasn’t really dead after all! Ah well, if at first you don’t succeed….
As the season crawls toward the finish line, we take some time to chat about the anime-ish games we’ve been playing in addition to our usual anime talk.
With monsters rampaging in the streets, every faction scrambles both to stay alive and to find the truth.
Touma premieres his highly anticipated new light novel “I Can’t Believe My Childhood Friend Died and Also A Clown Was There!”.
Angered and confused by the revelation of Calibur’s true identity, Kento sets out to confront him one-on-one, while the villains plan to ensnare the other Riders in battles of their own.
Halfway through the season we welcome back Gal and Dino, catch up on some other anime trash we haven’t discussed in a while, and check in for another Kamen Rider update.
After checking back in with HQ, Headkeeper moves back into the Imperial Capital to extract their spies and find out what exactly the Empire has been hiding.
Determined to confront his father and finally discover the motivation behind his betrayal, Kento recruits Touma and Rintaro for a final showdown with Calibur. The result of their battle is a shocking revelation about the dark Rider’s true identity….
With King of Arthur out of his reach, Calibur plans to seize a new source of power. Meanwhile, Daishinji decides to express himself through music. Also, Durian battles Walnut.
We are still talking about Great Pretender somehow (thanks Netflix), discussing the anime versus the game with Magatsu Wahrheit Zuerst, and we finally get off some Genshin Impact takes.
With most of the smugglers still on the run, the Imperial Government cracks down even harder as their own corruption starts to come to light.
Headkeeper stops at a village for car repairs and come across the remnants of an Imperial research camp.
Touma is feeling the pressure of wielding the King of Arthur powerup…for some reason. His indecision leads to Ogami getting turned to stone, marginally improving the quality of his character writing.
Rinku is a very enthusiastic girl who grew up on a small African island, and while she may be unfamiliar with a lot of things, she really likes H Jungle With t’s 1995 hit single Wow War Tonight.
