Ixion Saga DT Episode 8

Pimpin'

Recap: Kon is still glowing with Alma energy and it’s making it difficult for the group to travel unnoticed. A group of villagers spot him and mistake him for a god. Kon enjoys the attention at first, but the situation quickly escalates out of control.

Jel’s Thoughts: This was arguably the best episode of Ixion yet, tackling a considerably more ambitious plot line without sacrificing the series’ goofy, low rent charm. Granted the God for a Day setup has been done many many times before, but it escalated way beyond the scale of any previous hijinks we’ve become accustomed to.

Name the ones that are NOT the Dreamcast

I will stop short of saying Ixion had any grand message to make. The rapid fire foundation of a new religion seemed like less of a statement about society and more an excuse to talk about old video game systems. Still, can’t deny it was at least a gentle elbow nudge at how gullible people can be. For a show that has primarily run on balls jokes up to this point, I’ll take any kind of bar raising on the humor I can get.

Of course the humor is the most important part, and this episode did also manage to be quite funny. The party’s quick interpretations on Kon’s History of Video Games were all amusing, and I have to say they were digging impressively deep on some of the consoles they mention. Probably my favorite joke though, as dumb as it was, was Kon trying to get his glow back by acting like Pikachu. Judge me if you will, but that had my laughing harder than probably any single joke in this entire series. Consider it a small reminder that Ixion has no intention on getting all high brow on us, and I am totally OK with that.

Full of hot air

If there was one thing that disappointed me it’s how Kon just dropped his new army of followers and moved on. I would have liked to see them use that as some appropriately ridiculous, unconventional way of making it to the capital. Maybe they’ll come back and save the day in a later episode? And speaking of later episodes, it looks like we may finally learn more about the mysterious woman who seems to be pulling the strings behind all this. We’ll see next week!
