Recap: Youto confronts Tsukiko’s sister. She claims that she wants to cut her sisterly bonds with Tsukiko
Youto wishes his weaknesses away and declares that he loves Tsukiko like an older brother… and Tsukushi responds by telling him that she wants to move to Massachusetts and marry her sister!?
Lifesong’s Thoughts: I am not sure what I just watched. I think Henneko just dove off the deep end, but I am not really sure. I am worried that Youto will somehow become Tsukiko’s older brother after this weeks wish and the potential incest jokes are already scaring me.
Assuming I am reading too much into Youto’s wish.(and I really hope that I am wrong) This anime is kind of all over the place. I like the melodrama, but I am worried it’s unfocused. Perhaps the pace is just pushing forward too quickly, but Youto’s connection to Tsukiko really is shallow. I suppose turning him into her brother MIGHT make sense for drawing them closer together, but I can’t help feeling anxious about how poorly upcoming events could go down.
On the one hand it’s pretty clear that Tsukiko has feelings for Youto, even if he is completely clueless. I am hoping that this anime will never ask us to take her sister too seriously again. I will admit to laughing at the Massachusetts joke, but between that and her falling for the twin brother thing… Her image as complete idiot is set in stone.
Right now my biggest concern for Henneko is that I can’t tell what it is trying to be. Clearly it is a romantic comedy with a magical twist, but the premise that was established in the first episode is essentially gone now. Tsukushi uh… ate her sisters emotions and Youto got his facade back. What is next I wonder? Did Youto become Tsukiko’s older brother? If so I really hope that gets fixed quickly. If not… what?
