Gee’s Thoughts:

Anyone who’s watched anything ever probably knows exactly how this episode goes. That said, this episode is an example of Yamato’s perfect pacing. A lesser anime would have split the events of this episode into two or three, where as Yamato 2199  manages to introduce the conflict, the resolution, and the conclusion all in a neat 22 minute package.

We finally meet in person a Gamilan, the female pilot Ditz, assigned to the Yamato as a liaison between the two ships. Yeah yeah, the blue-skinned space babe is a tired old cliche, but looking at this lady, I can’t say I particularly mind.

*ahem*

As I was saying, the Gamilan ship presents your typical enemy-mine situation. While the captain is an honorable man who sees the Yamato as a worthy opponent, the imperial guard assigned to the ship is a sneaky bastard of course. Still, it brings up the point again that Yamato 2199 loves to repeat: The Gamilan Empire may deign to destroy humanity, but Gamilans themselves run the whole gamut of the moral spectrum, just like humans. After the predictable, but still highly engaging events that leave our alien lady stranded on the Yamato, it should be interesting to see what an opposing viewpoint brings to the table. As usual, Yamato 2199 continues to be a treat to watch.
