Samurai Flamenco Episode 19

flamenco19a Recap

Hazama starts living an ordinary life as his actions have brought about world peace. While he is being vetted for President of the World, Goto goes back home. There, the biggest mystery in Samurai Flamenco is revealed.

I do find it hilarious that everyone immediately wants Hazama to rule the world after thinking he was a war criminal just a few days ago. I guess there’s just something about winning the big fights that make people think you can handle things way over your head. I suppose this must have been what Ulysses S. Grant felt like after the Civil War. Hazama is so obviously not fit to lead anyone outside a five-man sentai group that it’s laughable anyone would even think to have him lead the entire world.

It’s kinda funny how often Goto’s girlfriend would come up in conversation of Samurai Flamenco. She was this mysterious X-factor that seemed to defy reason. If she was unimportant, why would we never see her? If she was, did this spell some weird twists in the future? I know a lot of people that had money on her being a big bad at one point, because any other reason wouldn’t justify the subterfuge. Except for the one we got. Indeed, I didn’t even imagine that the entire thing would be a lie. After throwing us for so many loops, the last one I was expecting was for Goto to have major mental problems. The idea that he fantasizes having texts and dates with his dead girlfriend is so many levels of unsettling that I never expected it to come from a show like this. Still, I suppose in truth we were never told she died, only disappeared, so she may still have a part to play.

Which brings us to the abrupt ending. This idyllic life was obviously not meant to last, but I never would have thought its end would be ushered in by a child executing a terrorist attack. More than the flashy explosion at the end I was fascinated by what the child had to say. Knowing the characters of this story I’m starting to think I may be on to something. Everyone seems to have some kind of issues, at the very least among our main characters. The way the child talked, it seemed like this world might not even be real to begin with. It would kinda make sense with how messed up things are that this might all be a fabrication. Either that or Hazama’s denial of retaining his world-changing powers may have broke something fundamental to the universe. Whatever’s going on, it’s obvious Samurai Flamenco is nowhere near done making us guess.

  1. Love it or hate it, Samurai Flamenco is a show that never fails to keep the audience guessing – apparently right through to the very end. I can certainly see how it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I honestly think the series has a touch of genuis to it. Clearly it’s not going to win any awards for title of the year, but I still really like it. There’s a definite method to all its madness.

    • It’s clearly not a bad show, but I’m still not sure how much of my drive to watch it is just to see what new ridiculous plot twist they come up with next. It’s like Shyamalan times ten with this show.
