Recap

Unfortunately, Fumina decides she needs to replace her GM Powered Cardigan, and decides to make a trip to G-Muse, a Gundam museum/park/gunpla store. Needing to understand gunpla and Gundam itself in more depth, Sekai comes along as well to witness the wonderful world of gunpla.

Gee’s Thoughts

Alas, the fateful day has come folks. Fumina decides she needs a new gunpla that isn’t the beautiful GM Powered Cardigan. So off to Gunpla land! This was a pretty fun episode with some standard lighthearted GBG hijinks. Despite the inevitability of Fumina’s final choice, seeing her looking at all the various GM variants was extremely satisfying. Not only is Fumina a great gal who wears spats and shorts all the time, she also has amazing taste in gunpla. It is a shame that all the various rival teams keep talking about Yuuma and Sekai while Fumina is just some random girl apparently. I guess being a solid all-rounder pilot with great tastes in gunpla isn’t really that noteworthy in the GBF universe though.

Also as a side note, seeing the Gouf R35 animated once again was an absolute delight. Let us never forget the true strength and fury of the Blue Giant unleashed.

We also meet Minato Sakai, a rude Osakan and inheritor of the Shingyo Gunpla School. Like Mao before him, he’s a hell of a builder, but it seems he didn’t inherit his predecessor’s affable kindness. Still, we get an surprisingly amazing SD Gundam fight out of it. While I’m not one of those guys who instantly hates SDs because they’re too kiddy and silly, I’ve never really been a big fan of them. I get they’re popular with kids and women though so it makes sense for Sunrise to cover their demographic bases. Seeing the return of a true Burning Finger was a ton of fun, no matter what form it showed up in.

Now that Sekai’s been beaten at gunpla battle, I have a feeling we’re going to see him really adapt and learn in the face of the challenges that are in store for him. So far it seems that Try is focusing more on introducing a wide variety of teams rather than giving us a singular rival or two to focus on, like its predecessor. It’ll be interesting to see if that works out better, or if the lack of focus means we miss out on famous episodes like 6 or 15 in their scope.

  1. god finger denied ;(

Sekai vs Minato was still a good fight though, and I see he inherited Mao’s BS building magic only cranked up to eleven.

that ending with the kids was funny heh
