The Catch-Up: Fall 2017

After The Wrap-Up and The Roundup, it’s time for The Catch-Up! Because it’s a bit silly to write a ‘first look’ post on shows that aren’t technically new, The Catch-Up gathers our brief impressions on new seasons of returning shows and reminds readers what we thought about their earlier installments. Join us as we answer such important questions as “Will Blood Blockade Battlefront still be good without Rie Matsumoto?”, “Will ClassicaLoid still be good without the great Bach-sama?” and most importantly, “Will the Glorio Blog still be good without Aqua’s weekly struggle with Love Live Sunshine!!?” We reserve the right to change our answer to any of these at any time.

First Look: Land of the Lustrous

In the distant future, the world is occupied by gemstone-based girls, who must battle evil invaders from the moon who wish to use them as jewelry. Phosphophyllite, the youngest of the gems, desperately wants to be a warrior but instead is assigned the task of compiling an encyclopedia.

First Look: Urahara

Three girls run a fashion clothing-slash-patisserie shop in the trendy neighborhood of Harajuku in Tokyo. Everything in their world is impossibly pastel and chic, but one day aliens descend to earth in order to steal its culture, and only they can fight it! For some reason!

First Look: Konohana Kitan

Yuzu, a fox girl, has been employed at a hot spring inn run by other fox girls. It’s a popular place for the visiting yokai to stay, so the girls are always meeting interesting people, and hearing curious stories.

First Look: Sengoku Night Blood

A teenage girl is magically transported from modern-day Japan to a fantastical version of the Warring States era, complete with all the usual suspects like Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Date Masamune running around. As it turns out, MC-chan’s blood has unique properties that provide strength and healing – which is probably unfortunate given that at least one side of the conflict are apparently vampires. Oh, and the other warrior teams have defining physical traits such as cat ears, because I guess that’s just what people have to do to inject some sense of originality into Sengoku-era stories these days.

First Look: Black Clover

Asta wants to become the King of the Pirates, but he’s Quirkless in a world where everyone has a Quirk. However, it turns out he has the rare and powerful Nine-Tailed Fox within his grimoire, granting him the power of the M0.

The GLORIO Fall 2017 Anime Guide – Part 3

Unfortunately the third part of our preview guide features all three of my nominees for the potential worst shows of the season. On the bright side, we have the TV series debut of the popular Ancient Magus Bride, as well as two good returning shows in Blood Blockade Battlefront and March Come In Like a Lion. Check it out, and let us know what you’re watching.

The Wrap-Up: Summer 2017

If you go about doing a season preview, it is only obvious you also close off on a season review. In The Wrap-Up, all of our contributors get to shine a spotlight on the show they thought to be the very best of the past few weeks, as well as reflect back on the preview to see which shows let us down the most. When you watch currently airing anime or tokusatsu, eventually the question will rise which of these shows can rank amongst the medium’s true classics. Regardless of who covered what, this is where we single out the cream of the crop, and decide which shows from the past season deserve to stand the test of time.
