The Winter season sure looks bad but there is still plenty to watch with more episodes of Classicaloid, March Comes In Like a Lion, KONOSUBA, and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu on the way. There’s also more Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans so make of that what you will…
Only half joking with that title, this year has been marked with a lot of changes, not the least of which being my entry into studies for the priesthood. Still you’re not here to listen to me talk about contemplating celibacy, you’re here for the people who pretty clearly are on the opposite end of the spectrum. 2016 was a light year for pure romance shows, but I’m here for you to dish out the best of the best.
It’s the last Roundup of the season and the entire year. Join us in bidding a tearful farewell to Yuri On Ice and a temporary “see ya later” to Classicaloid and March Comes In Like a Lion, which we’ll pick back up next season.
It’s all too easy to remember the awful shows we subjected ourselves to over the course of the past year, but often much harder to remember the stuff that surprised us in the best of ways. In order to cap off 2016 on a positive note, I’d like to take this opportunity to talk a bit about those anime titles which, while not necessarily the strongest of the year, definitely exceeded expectations.
2016 was bad. Watching the world fall apart has made something as silly as writing about cartoons difficult to focus on at times. Still, it’s good to have a way to escape and anime has been good for that. In fact, I’d say this is the best overall year of anime we’ve had since 2011. I certainly had fun compiling my annual list of favorite moments and it was hard to narrow down to ten… so I decided not to. Hey, it’s my list and I will do what I want. So enjoy the list and stay tuned for the rest of the week as the rest of the crew shares their highlights from this year.
AAAAAHHH! This season is already almost over! This year is already almost over! We have some fun year-in-review posts lined up starting tomorrow, but in the mean time there is still good anime to talk about. Girlish Number and Yuri On Ice are nearly complete, but strong episodes from Classicaloid and March Comes In Like a Lion make me happy they will be continuing into next season.
With the season far from more than halfway over, it’s time to once again take a look (and listen) at our favourite songs from shows that have been airing for the past few months. The lineup of bloggers recommending their pick may have shrunk a bit, compared to the past couple of times we did this, but on the other hand, This will be the first OP/ED Op-Eds in ages that won’t ask you to listen to the same song twice. Hey, I guess this season was just that good? Not much of a consolation, but eh, we’ll take what we can get. Anyway, this time around, I namedrop a bunch of artists you should ask your dad about, Artemis gets another reason to fawn over Yuri!! on Ice and Jel is most likely on drugs. Again.
Yuri On Ice makes history again with possibly the best plot twist of the year. We also get a healthy dose of bittersweetness from March Comes in Like a Lion and… Classicaloid???
Is Yuri On Ice on a slightly off day better than 90% of other shows? Yes, yes it is. Also, March Comes in Like a Lion is back so, yay!
No March Comes In Like a Lion this week makes me sad and Yuri doesn’t deliver anything quite as historic as last week, but the Roundup is still as strong as ever. Now go watch Girlish Number and then call your parents, they’re probably worried about you.
This weeks shows were good blah blah OK enough of that… Yuri On Ice episode 7. Wow. No spoilers but I guess it was, in fact, born to make history?
It’s been a rough week, and in these difficult times writing about cartoons feels more frivolous than usual. Perhaps more than ever though, I’m personally enjoying the comfort and brief escapism of some good anime. So take a minute to relax and forget about all the horrible things going on in the world for just a moment. I’ll be happy if we can at least offer that much.
Here at the Glorio Blog we always strive to deliver QUALITY anime coverage, regardless of our production schedule. It helps when there’s a lot of good shows to talk about of course, and I’m probably going to sound like a broken record here but wow this season is good. Yuri and March deliver as always, Girlish Number and ClassicaLoid are turning out pretty good, and somehow Aqua is still watching (and enjoying?) Kiss Him, Not Me.
The Roundup keeps on truckin’ with our usual batch of animes. Artemis is back but a few shows find themselves flirting with the chopping block, if not being cut altogether. You’ll have to read on to find out more, but I’ll tell you now I would probably never cut a show in which someone can say “Beethoven-senpai” unironically.
Nosebleeds abound as we continue to gush over all the good new shows this season. Girlish Number also joins the Roundup with more delicious jabs at the anime industry, or at least for now so long as we don’t get bored of it.
What’s this, anime is good again?!? This week we launch a rock solid lineup for the Fall 2016 Roundup with a couple of other shows joining us next week. Personally I’m already declaring Yuri!! On ICE and March Comes In Like a Lion as anime of the year contenders, we also have delightfully fun shows like ClassicaLoid, Time Bokan 24, and Poco’s Udon World, and for some reason Aqua is still watching Kiss Him, Not Me and Izetta: The Last Witch.
At 17 years old, Rei Kiriyama is already living alone, funded by his winnings as a renowned shogi prodigy. Outside of his professional life however, things are much tougher as Rei struggles in his relationship with family and friends.
