Recap: While playing with her kitties, Rin notices another note attached to the leg of one of them. The note asks her to “save the cafeteria”. With Riki in tow, Rin visits the cafeteria and asks the cafeteria lady if anything is wrong. She tells them all is well, so they go on their way.
Later on, however, Rin brings Riki to the cafeteria again, and all the staff have vanished for one reason or another. Deciding to save dinner for the school, Rin calls the cast together, and they make meals for all the students. As Riki begins to wonder how the note on the cat was able to predict the cafeteria being unmanned, he slips into another sleep state thanks to his narcolepsy. When he wakes up, he finds that all his friends waited for him to have dinner.
Lifesong’s Thoughts: Little Busters! is at its best when it focuses on the friendships being formed between the cast, and that is exactly what happened this episode. Ignoring the fact that we are already nine episodes into the series, it’s nice to see the setup come together a bit. Riki’s narcolepsy returns to focus and some sort of connection between his narcolepsy and “the secret of the world” is depicted, making his condition fit in with the story a lot better than it did before.
The whole thing with the kitties knowing “the secret of the world” feels more like the author giving his characters insider notes, in order to draw them together and deepen their friendship, than it does a mystery that needs to be solved. I am okay with that, though, because it works. I feel that Little Busters! is on a rebound now that the story has established its roots. I will reserve judgement until I see how the next route is dealt with, but at last, Little Busters! has a good feel about it.
Next week looks to be Mio’s episode. I am going to make a prediction here: Mio is going to have my favorite story. Why, you might ask? Intuition.
