Oreshura Episode 3

1

Recap: Eita and Chiwa go along with another of Masuzu’s classroom skits. This time Chiwa is a warrior who remembers her past life and must fight for FRIENDSHIP!

Chiwa is tired of being pushed by Masuzu so she leaves her mark a love letter. In truth she doesn’t really want him to accept, but he does. In celebration Eita throws her a feast, clueless of her feelings. In the end she runs home crying as he tells her that she is like family to him.

Lifesong’s Thoughts: This was a surprisingly emotional episode. Watching Chiwa and Eita pull off Masuzu’s skit was painful despite the amusing punchline. The rest of this episode moved fast. I expected Chiwa to crack at some point, I am impressed it happened so quickly. Knowing that Chiwa was Eita’s real inspiration for studying so hard puts a new spin on things. Eita’s promise with Chiwa to become a doctor who could heal her was cute. I am sure fans will blame Eita for being thickheaded but I can kind of understand. It is easy to take the people closest to you for granite.

Masuzu’s role in this story seems to be a bit more defined now. I originally expected to see her develop a relationship with Eita but now I am not so sure. Instead this story seems to favor Chiwa heavily, while Masuzu is some sort of smug bastard matchmaker. The way this episode confirms that Masuzu is aware of the way she is pushing both characters only further indicates that she understands exactly what she is doing to both Eita and Chiwa. I am not sure if she is toying with them for spot or if she is trying to help them along, but either it is not an accidental thing.

Those eyes would burn holes in Eita if he bothered to look at Chiwa, he never does.

Love between two people who have known each other for a long time is something that is not necessarily emotional. Emotions between people who reach a certain closeness come and go, just how it is. Sometimes you only recognize the value of something once you have lost it. At three episodes in this anime has proven to be a fairly decent drama. I kind of feel like I have been stabbed in the chest by a man who is still smiling at me while introducing himself, but it made a powerful connection despite pulling at my emotions so quickly and recklessly. I am looking forward to seeing what other surprises this anime might have in store in the coming weeks.
