Kouta Shibaki accidentally summons a powerful witch who can grant any wish. The only catch? The wish will cost him his life.
Marlin’s verdict: Bad Mojo
I feel like this show would be vastly improved by doing one thing: not making the protagonist a lecherous git. I’m glad that at least he’s treated for the pervert he is by his classmates, unlike the shows where a guy can be a total perv and still walk around with decent social standing. Still, every bit of him is just creepy, and unless you’re just as creepy as him you’re not going to empathize with his “struggles”. Catching a look up a girls skirt? Seeing a girl without her bra(that is not how not having a bra works by the way, not without water or something)? Is that what anime has come to these days? They have to please the lowest common denominator so much that they mold their protagonists to be just as horrible as they are?
Rurumo is actually pretty cute, all things considered. She’s pretty much the best part of any scene in this show. Her deadpan delivery makes a lot of the jokes, and her shy demeanor makes it easy to like her. I also just love her character design to death. The gigantic witch’s hat is just adorable, and the whole skull around the neck is a really cute accessory. I felt like if it weren’t for the main character, this entire show could have been something really fun. As is, it’s a dubious pervert’s show with all the trappings therein. I feel like we need to resurrect the Anime Character Rescue Project or something.
Life’s verdict: Shit
Bring out the brain bleach, this show will make you need it several times over. The quiet witch girl heroine is kind of cute. That is everything positive I have to say about Majimoji Rurumo. The stupid pervert protagonist is played out in a fashion that just makes everything about this show feel miserable. There are a lot of things I could say about how awful it is, but the main issue I have with it is easy to sum up. The truth is that it’s just very juvenile. It feels like a pervert fantasy that is genuinely intended for 14 year old boys. Considering this is from a shonen manga maybe that really is exactly what this show is all about. I’m too old for this shit. Easy pass for me.
