First Look: Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles

Manga Adaptation by Studio Gokumi

Premise

Ms. Koizumi really loves ramen noodles. Ms. Ohsawa is a lesbian stalker. Hijinks ensue!

Jel’s verdict: Hungry For More… Ramen, Not This Show

I almost liked this, but it felt like it needed something extra to make it good. They establish a simple formula: Ohsawa stalks Koizumi until she makes her give a detailed explanation of why she likes the ramen she is eating, Ohsawa walks away happy she got to talk to Koizumi. It’s so simple that I got tired of it by the end of the episode. Maybe it would have been better as a short? I actually liked the characters and I suppose it’s possible some of the other cast members could shake things up a little, but I’m feeling skeptical. At the very least the ramen looks delicious and maybe at the end of the day that is the entire point. I might give it another episode if nothing else good pops up this season.

Iro’s verdict: Can I Just Eat Ramen Instead of Watching This?

This is like two steps away from being a decent comedy, but instead just comes off as kinda dull, with the same joke played out three times in the first episode alone. I can appreciate some level of like dumb minutiae about inconsequential things like ramen noodles, but I’m not sure a full-length series is the proper format for such things. A 5-minute short format would fit way better. I can say for sure that I unironically enjoyed the eyecatch jingle between each sketch, but otherwise I’d say to skip this one.

  1. I like the manga. It’s not the greatest, but there’s some interesting facts about Ramen. Plus the characters are cute too. But the anime…even I was bored while watching it. This shouldn’t have been a full length story and would have worked better as a short. It was pretty disappointing, which is a shame since the manga is cute.
