2:33 Aqua’s Mom Says Hi

Returning Series:

  • 4:48 Hail Satan, welcome back Teasing Master Takagi-san
Will they or won’t they? (spoiler: They won’t)
  • 9:53 The inexplicable phenomenon that is Senki Zesshou Symphogear
    Basically the tokusatsu of anime.
  • 13:55 I wonder what A Certain Scientific Accelerator has been up to?
The latest series set in A Certain Convoluted Universe.
  • 19:29 PSA: Demon Slayer and Carole & Tuesday are still going.

New Series:

Stuff we probably don’t care about

  • 21:57 We don’t want to get people’s hopes up, so I guess we’ll just call it Wasteful Days of High School Girl
Featuring more than one (1) high school girl, I have been LIED TO!
  • 23:15 Hey guys, welcome to my let’s play of The Ones Within
It’s one of those battle royale series, except this time all the participants are Let’s Players and we’re somehow not supposed to root for the villain
  • 26:00 Kingdom Hearts Re:Stage! Dream Days♪ 2.8
I’d gladly give up anime if it meant the end of ganbare-your-way-to-the-top “multimedia projects”.
  • 29:25 Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?
No. (in case anyone forgot what
    OniiNyan is)
  • 32:06 This is the world we live in (oh-ooh-oh), and these are the hands we’re Given (oh-ooh-oh)
I can’t wait to see how my favourite whiney butt-rock band gets together.
  • 33:37 Machikado Mazoku
  • 37:15 If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord, which is apparently Bunny Drop but with an added sprinkle of isekai legally-distinct-from-isekai
And yes, when I say “like Bunny Drop”, I mean “like THAT like Bunny Drop”
  • The Rolling Thunder Isekai Revue, ft.
    • 40:38 Maou-sama Retry! aka what if you got reincarnated into another world… and also you’re the bad guy (duh)?
    • 41:44 Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, aka what if you got reincarnated into another world… and also the rest of your class is there too?
    • 42:15 Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?, aka what if you got reincarnated into another world… and also your mom is there to cockblock you?
    • 45:12 Isekai Cheat Magician, aka what if you got reincarnated into another world… and literally nothing unique or special happens whatsoever?

Stuff we probably do care about

  • 46:44 To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts might be the sleeper hit of the season.
Alternatively, it might also be the new Fairy Gone.
  • 49:01 Astra: Lost in Space, the much anticipated sequel to Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters!
Noreru? Norenai? CHOU NORERU! (shout out (?) to Classroom Crisis)
  • 52:23 Dr. Stone vs. Fire Force, the wheel of fate is turning, Rebel One, Action!
Rock is super effective against fire, I guess?
  • 1:01:58 I guess Jukki Hanada had nothing to do this season, so here’s Granbelm
Yo dawg we heard you like giant robots, so we put giant robots in your magical girl show so you can gattai while you henshin.
  • 1:07:55 Dogakobo twists the knife with How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift, bro?
Judging from how scrawny these supposedly “fit” girls look, I’m gonna guess “half a pound”. (bonus Gee rant about the extended Kengan Ashura universe)
  • 1:15:42 You’ve heard of “oh my sweet summer child”, now get ready for O Maidens in your Savage Season
Mari Okada is here to tell you about sex, what could probably go wrong?
  • 1:25:07 The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note brings us back to the Nasuverse.
It was adapting this, or adapting the controversial 2nd book, “Fart Banana Airplane Headphones Vase Slippers”.
  • 1:31:11 I just got back from the future and everyone in my college anime society told me to watch Vinland Saga
Inb4 Amazon promotes this as “Game of Thrones, but anime!” Haha, just kidding, Amazon doesn’t promote its anime!
  • 1:39:55 Now that he’s been kicked from Minecraft, the newly red-pilled Notch can finally dedicate himself to his newest project: Cop Craft!
Oh sure, because when I walk around with a twelve-year-old girl with no pants on, the cops arrest me, but when they do it, it’s suddenly okay.

1:43:10 Overall thoughts about the upcoming season

  1. I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but just from the list – is BEM flying under your radar as well? 😦 I know it’s not going to be any sort of a hit, sleeper or not (it’s not sexy or… well, Jump-y enough) but it’s sad how many people don’t seem to realize it exists, let alone that it’s a summer show. It looks pretty fun.

    • As the person who selected the shows we’d talk about, mea culpa! When I saw it on anichart, I dismissed it as a cheap production no one would care about, and didn’t realize it was a new entry in a 50-year old franchise. Quite the oversight, but you can be sure to look forward to our thoughts once the season actually starts!

      • Good! 😀

By the way, I’ve been seeing people having similar impressions about BEM and I wonder why it is so. Everything else aside, the show has Range Murata on character design, back in my day he was considered a big name, whose involvement generally meant a show to at least look out for… perhaps this has changed? (I’ve never been his fan though, so I’m glad to see the actual female character designs don’t have his signature lolitastic touch.)

Anyway, I’ve been trying to drum up some interest in the show because this is not the first seasonal anime in the past seasons that looks interesting and/or “different” but completely flies under people’s radar for no apparent reason. So many shows in the past years that I enjoyed a lot and thought would be at least decently well known, but turned out that barely anyone was watching them (or at least barely anyone was talking about them).

  2. It funny that you compare Demon Slayer to My Hero academy cause currently, the top 3 of Shounen Jump is the battle between Demon Slayer, The Promise Neverland and Dr.Stone while My Hero Academy currently at 6 or 7th place. But i do agree that the anime have pacing issue, but not because Ufotable adapt the manga faithfully but because the stuck to the 2-chapter-per-ep rule which while help the talky chapters, it also add filler to the fighting chapters. Some part they actually improved the pacing of the manga early chapters by adding scene and rearrange some stuff while other draw out the fight by added padding. It kinda weird too since they also cut out the manga narrator, so they essentially cut out a big part of the manga yet they still added more stuff to padded out the run time.

Regarding Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, i actually read the LN i kinda like it at first. the story focus mainly in the MC who a nerdy guy but got the attention of the class idol, so a class jock got jealous and create a accident while they in the dungeon to kill the MC. The MC not only survived but also thrived in the toxic environment of the dungeon. Really the first part is like Cast Away and i quite enjoy the MC figure out things and survive. But then he became too OP ( he have a railgun and a humvee in a fantasy world) get out of the dungeon a gain a harem. That when the series made my lost interest.

I remember that Dr.Stone only get good once they switch the MC, other than that it a petty good shounen with an education aspect due to the MC want to rebuild civilization using science.
