Nosebleeds abound as we continue to gush over all the good new shows this season. Girlish Number also joins the Roundup with more delicious jabs at the anime industry, or at least for now so long as we don’t get bored of it.
Band camp is brutal as the grueling practices and internal drama intensify. After Asuka reveals her reason for not accepting Nozomi and learning some huge details about Taki-sensei’s past, Kumiko finds herself with a lot of secrets to keep.
What’s this, anime is good again?!? This week we launch a rock solid lineup for the Fall 2016 Roundup with a couple of other shows joining us next week. Personally I’m already declaring Yuri!! On ICE and March Comes In Like a Lion as anime of the year contenders, we also have delightfully fun shows like ClassicaLoid, Time Bokan 24, and Poco’s Udon World, and for some reason Aqua is still watching Kiss Him, Not Me and Izetta: The Last Witch.
Chitose is a rookie anime voice actress who is already growing cynical toward the industry. Tired of getting bit parts, she signs a questionable deal for a lead role that also requires joining an idol group.
The girls use their last free day before camp to relax at the pool, but DRAMA never takes a day off. After talking to Nozomi, Natsuki, and Mizore, Kumiko is determined (sort of) to figure out why Asuka will not approve Nozomi’s return.
Ami Kurata has just started college and has yet to find something she is truly passionate about. After seeing a cute bicycle she decides to devote her entire life to long distance cycling.
After his father’s passing, Souta returns to the small town where he grew up to clear out his parents’ former home and udon restaurant. While in the restaurant he finds a peculiar (and hungry) young boy who immediately grows attached to him.
Tamaki Honda has just started high school and has yet to find something she is truly passionate about. After checking out the various school clubs she decides to join the SNS club, a group of girls who design indie games.
“Classicaloid” versions of classical music composers like Beethoven and Mozart have appeared in modern day Japan. They look like normal people (in slightly weird clothes) but when they play their “musique”, very strange things begin to happen.
Two hundred years in the future a great sage has collected famous swords from Japan’s medieval period and turned them into cute boys. Their purpose: to stop the history revisionists’ army from… revising history?
Roid (Lloyd?) reveals his true plan, setting up the final confrontation on Ragna.
It’s the last Roundup of the Summer season and we bid farewell to a surprisingly solid lineup of shows with an appropriately solid batch of finales. Well, except for 91 Days, they still have one more episode to kill everyone off.
We’ve saved the best for last as the third part of our guide seems to have the most interesting looking shows. I’ve got my eye on wacky musical comedy Classicaloid as it seems to fit my personal tastes rather well, but other shows to watch like new Shaft joint March Comes in Like a Lion and MAPPA’s latest, Yuri!!! On ICE, top off a list that seems to have a lot less duds than the previous two.
Summer is over and we must prepare to say goodbye to our Roundup shows. Sweetness and Lightning is the first to go, with everyone else setting us up for their finales. So enjoy these fun episodes while you can and save those tears for next week.

Part 2 of our Fall guide features Sound! Euphonium season 2, which is possibly the most anticipated show of the season. As for the rest, it’s the usual mixed bag of sex and violence and dumb comedy, but there may be a few hidden gems lurking in this batch. No, I’m not talking about Keijo!!!!! Hip Flip Girl, at least I don’t think so…
While yes, there is a new anime season upon us, there’s going to be a lot of familiar faces this Fall. Plenty of big names are returning like Haikyuu and Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans (neither of which we’ll be covering, apologies) mixed in with what seems like an unusually high amount of magical girl, idol, and magical girl idol shows.Speaking of returning shows, part 1 of our guide is headlined by the return of Glorio favorite BBK/BRNK, which is totally good despite the 3D, we promise.
Freyja, Hayate, and Mirage are put up to a sham trial while Roid (Lloyd?) shows Mikumo her past. With the main trio sentenced to death, Arad and the rest of Walkure must put together a hasty rescue plan.
With only a few episode remaining, shows like Sweetness and Lightning and Amanchu scramble to meet their mandatory anime episode quotas, tackling the cultural festival and beach episodes respectively. Fortunately both shows remain just too sweet to be dragged down by anime clichés, and we get yet another week of solid Roundup viewing.
I probably need an insulin shot after watching anime this week as nearly every show was super sweet and endearing – even my dumb Art Club show. At least 91 Days is back with more murder to make sure my cold, dead heart doesn’t thaw out too much.
