If you go about doing a season preview, it is only obvious you also close off on a season review. In The Wrap-Up, all of our contributors get to shine a spotlight on the show they thought to be the very best of the past few weeks, as well as reflect back on the preview to…
Things have returned to normal for Shinichi. Changed after his experience with Gotou, Migi retreats into his own mind to ponder his very existence. Living a normal life only lasts so long until the final loose thread comes into play.
Shinichi goes on the offensive against Gotou in a last desperate attempt. Obviously outmatched, he still manages to survive much longer than Gotou anticipated. After remembering the municipal building incident and getting a lucky strike in, the tide begins to change.
Shinichi barely gets to enjoy his afterglow before being put on the run by Gotou. Using their heads and resorting to extreme measures, they still fail to bring him down. Battered and beaten, Shinichi escapes to a rural village. While Gotou continues to search, the livelihood of the villagers is put at risk.
Hirokawa reveals his reasons for creating his Parasyte haven, and his final secret is revealed. Meanwhile, Gotou is still on the rampage, and eventually finds his way to Shinichi. Weakened from taking down the many exterminator squads, he decides to retreat, but not before giving Shinichi a clear threat. Starting to struggle with paranoia, Shinchi finds consolation in the arms of Murano.
The police try to keep things in order, but human error makes the situation quickly devolve into martial law. On the hunt for Parasytes, the protection of civilians is a secondary concern. Two groups find Gotou, and his invincibility is once again put to the test.
Shinichi confronts the killer in front of him. His loss of cool makes Hirama even more suspicious. While Shinichi tries to go back to a peaceful life, Hirama ropes him in for the final assault on Parasyte headquarters.
Tamura uses her final moments to give Shinichi a message about what her Parasyte experience has meant to her. In the wake of her death, Shinichi finally comes to terms with the loss he has experienced. Now under police protection, Shinichi continues to give no hints to his true nature. Still suspicious, the police use their last ace in the hole.
Tamera faces off against three Parasytes at once. Using her keen insight into Parasyte morphology and unorthodox behavior, she manages to best them all without a scratch. In the mean time, the detective has taken her child for his own revenge. As Tamura and Shinichi face off, Murano and the police are finding themselves closer to the truth about Shinichi.
Shinichi starts his battle with Miki. After some quick thinking, they use their environment and their observations to launch a successful counter attack. Little do they know, Miki is not the alpha Parasyte in that body. In fact the Juggernaut I’d been waiting for was inside of him all along. Driven to his limits, Shinichi goes into hiding.
Shinichi starts to track Parasytes, eventually finding one of their feeding grounds. After successfully defeating another Parasyte, he starts to feel overconfident about his abilities. The Parasyte Council, finally sick of his interloping, sends a team of Parasytes after him. Intelligent and sociable, this group is a dangerous threat. However, what is most frightening is they all inhabit the same body.
Migi changes his mind about the best strategy to tackle their newest problem. Believing in strength in numbers, they recruit the ever jovial Uda. I was pretty hyped. Back to Tamiya, or rather Tamura now, we find the intelligent Parasyte starting to have human emotions, even if it’s something as despicable as schadenfreude. With her interest in human ethics increasing, might radical changes be happening to her behavior?
Shinichi returns to his normal life, but the student body learns that he was the one to discover Kana’s body. Yuko finds Shinichi’s lack of reaction despite the horrific events disturbing, and Murano agrees. Elsewhere, Reiko has sent a private detective to monitor Shinichi’s movements. After he gets caught, Migi almost murders him, but Shinichi’s conscience stops the attack. Stuck with the paranoia of his secret getting out, he tries to console in Murano, only to find Migi preventing that from happening, leaving him alone.
Kana continues to pursue Shinichi, increasingly convinced that her sensory powers are proof of a more intimate connection. Even after Shinichi exploits migi’s sleeping period to tell her the truth, she refuses to believe. With her powers growing ever stronger, it is only a matter of time before she puts herself in danger.
With the immediate threat over, Shinichi tries to go back to his normal life at school. At the same time, strange dreams and Shinichi’s warnings make Kana start to get even more interested in him. Elsewhere, a modified Parasyte is unleashed in some clandestine operation. His efforts appear to run parallel with other Parasytes attempting to infiltrate the local government.
Shimada’s confrontation spirals out of control as his body is damaged. With no way to stop his autonomous Parasyte reactions, he goes on a killing spree in Murano’s class. Shinichi goes to save her, and resolves to defeat Shimada by his own hand. Later, we learn just how much the government knows about the Parasyte threat.
Shinichi’s mind is starting to change with his body, and Murano is starting to notice it more and more. A new parasyte is sent into Shinichi’s school, keeping him on edge. Later, one of Murano’s friends discovers the secret of the Parasytes, and despite being totally defenseless tries to handle the new arrival herself.
Shinichi dashes out to confront his mother’s killer, only to find Uda, a man in the same boat as him. They become quick friends, and Uda decides to help Shinichi as his mother’s killer finally reveals itself.
Migi acts quickly to save Shinichi’s life by merging with his damaged organs. The process takes its toll on Migi, but also manages to make improvements to Shinichi’s senses. He finds out his father is still alive, wounded in a hospital. Shinichi goes to protect him from the monster that stole his mother away, and finally builds the resolve to fight.
Shinichi continues to search for distinctions between himself and the unfeeling Parasytes. By trying to intervene on behalf of his friend versus some bullies, he finds cause for his humanity, as well as interest from a new girl named Kana, who may be able to sense Parasytes. Away from home, tragedy strikes his family, and Shinichi must confront the worst case scenario.
